Our review process
How we verify roofing contractors
“Verified” means a real person on our team reviewed the company before it appeared in the directory. Here’s exactly what that covers, and what it doesn’t.
- Every listing reviewed by a person
- Licensed & insured confirmed at signup
- Reviews moderated
From application to listing
- 1
The company applies
It submits its details and confirms it’s licensed and insured where its state requires it.
- 2
Our team reviews it
A person checks the business, its contact details, address and content (see below).
- 3
Approved or declined
Companies that pass go live in the directory. Applications that don’t are declined.
- 4
Kept accurate
Suggested edits, homeowner reviews and complaints are all checked by our team.
What we check before a listing goes live
It’s a real roofing business
We check the company’s name, website and online presence, and that roofing is a service it actually offers.
Contact details work and match
The phone number, email, website and social profiles belong to the same business.
A real U.S. address
We confirm the office location and place it on the map, so “near me” results are accurate.
The content is theirs
We review the description, logo and project photos and edit out anything misleading.
No duplicates
Each company is listed once, so you’re not comparing the same roofer twice.
Licensed & insured
Contractors confirm they’re licensed and insured where their state requires it. Many also add their license number, year founded and manufacturer certifications, shown as they provided them.
Keeping listings accurate
- Anyone can report a problem. Every listing has a “Suggest an edit” link, and our team reviews each suggestion before anything changes.
- Reviews are moderated. Homeowner reviews are checked before they appear, and we remove spam and reviews that break our rules.
- We act on complaints. If a company misrepresents itself, we can correct, hide or remove its listing.
What “verified” doesn’t mean
We review every company, but we’re a directory, not a contractor or an inspector. We don’t:
- Inspect a contractor’s work
- Run background checks
- Guarantee a contractor’s performance or pricing
That’s why the checks below are still worth a few minutes before you sign.
What you should still do before hiring
- Check the licenseLook it up with your state’s licensing board. We show the number when the company provides it.
- Ask for proof of insuranceA certificate covering liability and workers’ compensation.
- Get it in writingA written estimate and contract, plus the workmanship and manufacturer warranties.
- Check reviews and referencesRead reviews here and on other sites, and ask for references from recent jobs.
